John E. Girton, Jr.

After over two decades in the media industry, John Girton. has found his niche. Spending much of the past five years in front of the classroom, this "new media" entrepreneur is a proven and accomplished communications professional who not only teaches, but also trains and mentors students and businesses in the areas of innovative media, communication strategies and technology integration. His creative designs, website development, multimedia and television productions have appeared on billboards, in print and on televisions all over the globe for clients as familiar as Black Entertainment Television's Bobby Jones Gospel, Vanderbilt University, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee State University, Monument Media, and the National Association of Black MBA's. 

John is presently serving as an Instructor of Journalism and Telecommunications at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He is also a regular speaker and guest lecturer at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. Along with his teaching and lecture load, multimedia workshops and training seminars, he is responsible for implementing innovative strategies and increasing brand equity through video, print, web and multimedia assets for clients across the US.

An ordained clergy, Girton serves as the Founder and Senior Servant of The Loving Church and Alive International. John has traveled the country on the national speakers circuit as a featured empowerment speaker, captivating and motivating high school and college audiences with his message of empowerment and inspiration. When he isn't in the classroom, writing, innovating or speaking, he spends quality time with his wife and three children.

A member of several organizations, John's commitment to innovation, new media and technology is evident by the many organizations and activities that keep him close to his craft. He is a member of the Broadcast Educators Association, the Nashville chapters of the NAACP, the Nashville chapter of the Urban League, the Society of Industry Leaders, he serves as VP of Broadcast for the Nashville chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He serves on the board of advisors for the International Black Film Festival and is co-founder of the Tennessee Statewide Sandbox Podcasting competition. He is the co- founder of Girton Empowerment Ministries, Inc. (501c3), which is dedicated to educating youth and adults through several programs he's designed such as the Youth In Media Institute and the Technology Integration Program (TIP), a partnership between the Department of Communications at Tennessee State University and the Metro Nashville Public School System.
